Rites of passage
In the journey through life there are many significant periods that should be celebrated. These include:

These milestones are known as rites of passage.

Commitment ceremonies
As a civil celebrant I will work with you to design a ceremony that will take your relationship to the next level by you making a public commitment of your love. Commitment ceremonies are for those couples who either don't want the legal formalities or, in the case of same sex couples, who are excluded at this time from the legal process.

Irrespective of legalities, love needs to be celebrated and I will work with you to develop a meaningful ceremony that celebrates your strong commitment and love for each other.

Naming Ceremonies
Naming ceremonies are an official welcome of a baby or child into a family. I will work with you to create a ceremony that symbolises your love and aspirations for your child and what this young person has brought to your family and community.

At your wishes I will include god parents and/or mentors who may take a lifelong role in assisting to nurture and support the development of your child. Often naming ceremonies are accompanied by tree plantings, the lighting of candles and the presentation of certificates to significant family members or mentors.

Turning 18 and 21
Turning 18 is considered to be the time when a person becomes an adult. This brings about new freedoms and responsibilities as 18 year olds can vote, gain a driver's license, legally drink alcohol and frequent night clubs. Celebrating this milestone is very important.

Traditionally turning 21 was considered to be an important time as it was considered that a person gained their majority and got the key to the door. Today people celebrate their 18th and 21st birthdays.

Major birthdays
Apart from 18th and 21st birthdays there are other significant birthdays that are often celebrated. These include 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100. They often reflect different stages of ones life. I will work with you to design a celebration according to your needs.

Starting school
Every parent looks forward for the time when their child starts school. This is significant as you move your child's education from the home to the formal environment of school. At the same time you reduce your contact with the child. It is both exciting and terrifying for your children as they make new friends and commence their education.

Retirement from paid employment
Just as important as starting school is retiring from paid employment. In the past people generally worked for one employer and on retirement gained a 'gold watch'. Today as people tend to change employment throughout their working life, farewells are frequent events. Ceasing paid employment is a large step and should be marked by a celebration.
